The holiday season always bring a heavy schedule for puroresu. I'm not in Japan like some lucky joshi fans, so I eagerly await their first hand reports.
Fuuka had her final show at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring on the 23rd-she's retiring next spring with a show at Korakuen Hall. The highlight here was Fuuka doing a rare job at her vanity show, falling victim to Meiko Satomura's new sleeper hold finisher. Also on the 23rd was the year-end OZ Academy show. Quite a bit happened here. A rookie named Nao Komatsu had her debut, losing to Tomoka Nakagawa. Mayumi Ozaki & KAORU are having a spat and tried to settle things with a Dress Up Wild "Serial Killing" Fight. Basically, this is a streetfight where you have to score two consecutive falls to win the match. KAORU won the 1st and 3rd falls, but eventually Ozaki won by scoring the 2nd, 4th, and 5th falls. It seems that Aja might have helped KAORU out, but I'm not sure. In any case, Aja & KAORU are facing Ozaki & Takako Inoue next month.
OZ also had two title matches. There was another title switch for the singles crown, as Carlos Amano took the belt from Manami Toyota with the Carlos Ghosn headbutt finisher. Yet another time-limit draw saw AKINO & Ran Yu-Yu retain the championship in a match against Chikayo Nagashima & Sonoko Kato.
The biggest news was the Azumi Hyuga retirement show. It also has come out that injured teenager Pinkie Mayuka has ended her career. She had been absent since the summer after a knee injury. JWP seems to be feuding with Passion Red. An eight-woman tag match saw JWP win with Tojuki Leon pinning Passion Ray. A lumberjack match saw Passion Red even things up, as Nanae Takahashi nanaracked up another win over Sachie Abe. A memorial battle royale (with people like Ozaki, Kansai, Jaguar, Meiko, Tamura, etc.) saw Ran Yu-Yu win, getting the final elimination over Yuki Miyazaki. Hyuga did the traditional job in her final match, as her & Bolshoi lost to Kayoko Haruyama & Kaori Yoneyama. Kayoko hit one last Keene Hammer to officially end the Hyuga era of JWP.
JWP is setting up a league early next year, with a JWP block and an outsiders block, to determine Haruyama's next challenger. I predict Tsubasa Kuragaki to win on the JWP side and will face Nanae for the title shot.
