WAVE's year end show saw a series of youngster vs veteran challenges. Moeka Haruhi had the unenviable task of facing Aja Kong, and of course did not win. Shu Shibutani (losing to AKINO) and Yumi Ohka (losing to GAMI) also lost in their challenges. The battle royale at the year end party did see Sendai Girls' Ryo Mizunami claim the victory, leading up to her challenge for Misaki Ohata's JWP Junior/POP titles next weekend and then a singles match vs GAMI at the "I think the Tokyo Dome sucks and I'd rather go to Shinjuku FACE show" on 1/4.
The highlight of JWP's show was Azumi Hyuga and Ran Yu-Yu challenging Kaori Yoneyama & Emi Sakura for three different tag belts: JWP, Daily Sports, and Ice Ribbon. Even though Hyuga is retiring in 2 weeks, she continues to own Emi and used the knee of death to the back of Emi's head to win those titles. I'm not sure if there will be some match for Hyuga to drop the titles back to someone or if she'll retire as champion and give JWP and Ice Ribbon excuses to run tournaments in early 2010.
The LEE Beginning show was notable for Asami Kawasaki's return to joshi. She was in the main event in singles action against Yumiko Hotta. The result was pretty standard; Hotta wins with a palm strike and then talks shit about how weak Asami is. Apparently Asami will get another chance at next week's Ito Dojo show in a tag match.
A couple of quick news bits: NEO and OZ will both debut new wrestlers. NEO has 16 year old Natsumi Kawano on 12/31, while OZ has 26 year old (hey, that's young for those ladies) Nao Komatsu on 12/23. Also, Hiren is the latest victim of the Sendai Girls injury curse, suffering a compression fracture in her back. The poor girl's in a body cast and they say she'll be out 3 months, which sounds optimistic to me.
