Results, May 3-May 9

Of course, the massive news story from joshi puroresu this week was more bad news.  At NEO's 10th anniversary show at Korakuen Hall on May 5th, it was revealed that NEO will be folding after the New Year's Eve Day show this year.  Kyoko Inoue further announced (probably due to frustration with the retirements, lack of progress in developing new wrestlers, and differences with President Koda) that she has left NEO, effective immediately.  Yoshiko Tamura, Tanny Mouse, and Yuki Miyazaki all announced they are retiring together on December 31st.  Aya Yuki and Nagisa Nozaki will apparently follow Inoue in whatever comes next.

At the actual show, Tamura & Ayumi Kurihara defended the tag titles, beating Hiroyo Matsumoto & Misaki Ohata.  Amazing Kong won her match, her first in Japan in over a year, by pinning Vanessa the Mountain.  Mima Shimoda got payback on Revolucion Amandola, beating Atsuko Emoto in the Loser Leaves NEO match.  That stip sure lost its sting.  Oh, and Tanny Mouse beat her NEO Machine Gunz partner Yuki Miyazaki in the big battle royale.

In non-NEO news, Ice Ribbon's second Korakuen Hall show was unable to top the 1000 attendance barrier, coming in at 895 fans.  Natsuki*Taiyo defended her NEO High Speed championship by beating Tsukasa Fujimoto.  Miyako Matsumoto went hardcore, doing the stairwell dive (while crying her eyes out in fear) and really working the crowd during her match.  She was teaming with Jun Kasai in a three way match for the International Ice Ribbon tag team championship.  Miyako ended up winning the titles, pinning Kazumi Shimouma (teaming with Passion Red mentor Nanae Takahashi), then if her tears while doing the dives weren't bad enough, then Kasai tried to kiss her.

LLPW had two shows.  Yes, that LLPW.  The first show was a joint effort with WAVE and Ito Dojo at Shinjuku FACE on Tuesday May 4. Shinobu Kandori made a cow submit (eh, Bullfight Sora).  Suprisingly, Hanako Kobayashi of all people won the main event, pinning Noriyo Tateno in a six-woman tag.  It turns out Tateno was injured and missed the weekend show on Saturday in Nagoya.  Hanako teamed with Harley Saito against Kandori & Jaguar Yokota.  Could young Ms. Kobayashi beat another legend?  HAHAHAHAHA.  Kandori put her to sleep.   Yumiko Hotta and Takako Inoue won the main event, beating Manami Toyota and Mima Shimoda when Inoue used the Destiny Hammer on Shimoda.  Actually, that might be a match report from a 1989 AJW show; I'm not quite sure.

Sendai Girls had the semifinals of the Battlefield Tournament at Zepp Sendai.  The openers saw some tag action, with Kaori Yoneyama and Hiroyo Matsumoto handling the sister team of DASH Chisako and Sendai Sachiko.  Then Kagetsu teamed with Aja Kong but took care of business on her own, defeating Toshie Uematsu and Hiren with the Blockbuster on her Sendai colleague.  Kagetsu then challenged Ryo Mizunami for the JWP Junior/P.O.P. titles, but only got a #1 Contender's match against Hiren instead.  That will happen July 9th.

Also on July 9th we will have the expected Meiko Satomura vs Yoshiko Tamura final.  Tamura beat Miz in 17 minutes, while Meiko had her second straight 20:00 draw, this time with Nanae Takahashi.  Satomura advances for the second straight time on the lighter weight stipulation (Aja Kong in the first round).  I'm disappointed but not suprised in the lack of a clean job from Nanae.
